A beginner story about getting across a city — the thing a learner needs in week one, told in the first person so you can read it as yourself. I have to be in the centre by eleven and have never done the route before: a cold stop and a bus I have to ask the number of, forty roubles for a ticket, a seat by the window, an escalator, a carriage with no free space, and the part everyone finds hardest — working out where to change lines. I get there with twenty minutes to spare, mostly because three strangers tell me where to go.
