An intermediate story built out of the verbs English speakers get wrong longest. Vera has walked the same route to work for two years without once thinking about how she does it; on her first day as a courier, going somewhere becomes the job. She circles a building four times looking for an archway the map does not show, overshoots her stop by two, walks back along the road she has just ridden, and climbs nine floors because the lift has been broken for three months.
